The concept of a united church vocal group, initially in the form of a 'barbershop quartet', had its early roots in an idea I formed in August 1997 when the Lord directed me to a number of people within my own church with vocal gifting who were not stepping out in faith to promote that gift in the service of the Lord. I began to pray with others for guidance and direction over the next two months. I found myself being led by the Lord in bringing together men with the same desire to minister in song as myself. We united as a group to pray for men from other churches. Time passed and prayer continued. During the following year our numbers increase to seven but, unfortunately, one of our group emigrated to Australia leaving a void in the bass section. We called upon the Lord once again to fill the gap but months passed and hearts sank to an all-time low. Even in these moments of trial there was hope as God was able to mould and shape us into one voice, one body.
What followed this period of restructuring became a major event in our journey together. I was approached by two ladies who thought I should pray with regards to their input into our ministry. We prayerfully presented this to the Lord and, as a result, the first five part harmony was introduced into our programme.
Since then, we have been joined by more male and female vocalists and have become a rich blend of voices representing a number of churches in the Worcester area. In God's appointed time, we believe we will incorporate many more gifted people into our family group, identifying with other churches or bodies within our city.
The culmination of our efforts to date has resulted in the release of four CDs and a play, Hopes and Dreams, when we jointly combined our voices with the children at a Christian school. We have also held the Jewish festival of Passover (Pesach).
We have also sung for various organisations throughout the year and will continue, God willing, to fulfill our up and coming venues.
We would encourage you therefore, as a Christian believer, if you would like to sing, to come along to our rehearsal night and meet ordinary people who use their voices to express their love for Christ in modern choruses and gospel music. You never know, you might just like it …
